How To Negotiate Hospital Bills-Cutting Your Bill Down To Size.
Before enter a hospital there are two main things you must consider:
1. Am I going to be admitted or just to treat the condition then head to your place of residence?
2. Am I self-pay or use your health insurance?
Self-pay means if you don't have active health insurance. So you are bearing the full responsibility of the bill. Some hospitals will have an individual to assist you in signing up for state funded programs or repayment plans.
There isn't just one bill or payment then you're home free. You pay for three different things:
The room and all equipment used.
The doctor service fees (each time a physician sees a patient, that patient is being charged.)
The hospital staff ( excluding doctors.)
Several other fees can appear but the three mentioned above are standard.

If you are pregnant and about to have your child or admitted for any reason expect a separat
e bill from your OB/GYN.
How to Avoid Getting Over Charged
Ask the administrating staff or nurse are you being admitted if so ask if you can apply for Medicaid to offset the cost even if you are commercially insured Medicaid, will cover that co-pay. With the new legislation that is trying to pass in Senate, Medicaid may be dramatically reduced, and many will lose this coverage.
If you are seeing a particular doctor and he/she doesn't know what the issue is and suggests calling a specialist or another general practitioner state to the doctor if they do need another opinion state that doctor must only give you a "consultation." A consultation is free.
