How To Save On
Hospital Bills
When you enter a hospital there are two main things you must consider:
1. Am I going to be admitted or just to treat the condition then head to your place of residence?
2. Am I self-pay or going through health insurance?
When patients enter a hospital there three main factors that generate a hospital bill:
-
The room and all equipment used.
-
The doctor service fees (each time a physician sees a patient they charge you individually.)
-
The hospital staff ( excluding doctors.)
How to Avoid Getting Over Charged
Ask the administrating staff or nurse are you being admitted if so ask if you can apply for Medicaid to offset the cost even if you are commercially insured Medicaid, will cover that co-pay. With the new legislation that is trying to pass in Senate, Medicaid may be dramatically reduced, and many will lose this coverage.
If you are seeing a particular doctor and he/she doesn't know what the issue is and suggests calling a specialist or another general practitioner state to the doctor if they do need another opinion state that doctor must only give you a "consultation." A consultation is free.
