Financial Assistance For Medical Expenses-How I Paid Off $44,000 Of Medical Debt.

My son who was born prematurely stayed in a local hospital close to my home. I assumed this medical institution had my kids interest and my finances in mind, but that is not the case. Many medical facilities are not there to help the people as they claim, but rather for their financial gain. One morning my wife and I went through some of our mail and found a bill for $44,220 for three days at the NICU. Outrageous! Being a student and working for a yearly salary of $28,000 there was no way we could pay for this bill. So we sought financial aid from governmental sources to no avail. I was denied coverage because I did not meet the income requirement. So we kept trying, researching and calling as many government agencies as we could. Until one day we came across donation groups such as Go Fund Me. We managed to raise to raise the money needed to pay that bill, but unfortunately, he was admitted for three months so you can imagine how large the bill was. So we again tried to raise the money again and came up short, so we sought another way to pay his bills. Again, we tried to get him coverage through Medicaid when we finally managed to be successful. We both agreed that this unfairness shouldn't be and being dependent on the government isn't good as well due to health care changing.

Donation Websites and Community Groups

GoFundMe and GiveForward are two of the biggest Donation Groups online today.

They provide a service which has revolutionized online giving. Both allow individuals and their families to create a campaign which you can raise funds through donations from others around the world. No matter the disease or ailment you can create a campaign. Here are the benefit for both you and the individuals. Let start with the person who is donating. When making any form of donation, tides for church or contribution you can deduct it from your taxes to learn more visit http://blog.turbotax.intuit.com/tax-deductions-and-credits-2/charitable-giving-and-your-taxes-7604/ Another benefit to donating it has positive physiological effects on the mind and body. According to The Life You Can Save a donating blog "In research conducted by the National Institutes of Health2, participants who chose to donate a portion of $100 they were provided enjoyed activated pleasure centers in the brain. Although this experiment was controlled and scientific, it did show that donating money simply makes you feel better, which is something we can all benefit from." The benefits for the person receiving the donation is less stress over their medical bills, a chance to receive excellent medical care and hopefully one day to return the favor. Well, it is not completely free. The owners and employees do need to get a pay check, so they take about 7.9% out of all the money raised through these campaigns and donations. Even though they charge, it is a small amount to pay compared to the alternative.
